EMGS 1-STAR
The 1st Level Assessment
The assessment requires the organization to prepare for Documentation Audit and the Energy Management System must be put into place. There are 7 aspects to be assessed: Management, Organization, Process, Information, Financial, Corporate Responsibility, and Achievement.

EMGS 2-STAR
The 2nd Level Assessment
The organisation will be assessed on its ability to sustain the 7 criteria from the EMGS 1-Star Certification. The Opportunities for Improvements (OFI) closed in the EMGS 1-Star assessment will be verified and reviewed along with the minimum of 5% energy reduction requirement. Before applying for the 2-Star assessment, there is a minimum waiting period of one year after the completion of the 1-Star assessment so that all of the required energy management activities are carried out by the organisation.

EMGS 3-STAR
The 3rd Level Assessment
The criteria to be assessed are the same as the first and second level EMGS assessment. The organisation is expected to:

Sustain its energy reduction declared from the 2-Star assessment

Integrate Sustainable Energy Management System (SEMS) with other systems/standards, and;

Ensure Energy Management is embedded in the organisational culture and values
Before applying for the 3-Star assessment, there is a minimum waiting period of one year after the completion of the 2-Star assessment so that all of the required energy management activities are carried out by the organisation.
