FAQ

There are some of the questions that are commonly asked by EMGS applicants. We try our best to answer the questions though some may not be able to be answered through FAQs. Feel free to reach out if you requires more information.
How long will it take to process my application?

Application processing will take less than 20 working days if all required documents and information are complete and submitted.

How long are the assessments?

1-Star rating requires two days for a full site assessment by a team of 2–3 peoples/assessors.

2-Star and 3-Star rating require three days for a full site assessment, including a night survey.

How much do I need to pay to be certified up still 3-Star rating?

For the certification (inclusive of SST), please refer to Guidelines for EMGS Applicants.

**Please note that the fee stated  in guidelines does not include the training fee for Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Internal Awareness Programs, Company/organization equipment investment & etc. It is purely for assessment & certification issuance.

What is the difference between the 1-Star, 2-Star & 3-Star rating?

1-Star: Equivalent to ISO 50001, with additional criteria. The 1-Star certification will assess for the complete establishment of the Energy Management System (EnMS).

2-Star: Required the organization to have established Energy Management System (EnMS) with proven savings of minimum 5% reduction compared to declared baseline.

3-Star: Required the organization to fully embedded the Energy Management System (EnMS) into the organizational cultured and integrated with other systems.

Is it difficult to obtain the AEMAS recognition?

Same as other system, proper planning can lead to successful implementation. To ensure the recognition obtained, the Energy Manager Training Course (EMTC) and material handbook/guideline can be useful tool. Additionally, the organization must ensure that they have committed energy management team, committee, support from top management as well as energy manager to drive the implementation of the EnMS.

How long will it take to receive my certificate from ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE)?

After the submission of Opportunities for Improvements (OFI) Closure documents within 90 days after final assessment date, the lead assessors will review the documents. If all the documents are deemed satisfactory, the organization will be recommended for certification at the Working Committee (WC) meeting that is held quarterly. After the WC recommendation, the result is to be endorsed in the Joint Project Committee (JPC) meeting and be reported to ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE).

As the process for the WC and JPC could take up to 2 months, the expected duration that the organization will receive the certificate after the closure approval is estimated 3-6 months.

Why should the organization choose AEMAS EMGS certification compared to other ratings or tools?

AEMAS system offers a systematic and sustainable way for organization to enjoy impact of energy savings and cost reduction.

On top of that, it is recognized regionally (by ASEAN) and will received consultation by technical and management experts that were actively involved in the industry even before other EnMS exists.

Is it mandatory to have Certified Energy Manager (CEM) under AEMAS?

It is necessary that the organization applying for EMGS Certification to have an appointed AEMAS-CEM, either internal or external to fulfill requirements under Aspect 2 – 2.1 (1) Energy Manager Appointment which will be obtained
by attending Energy Manger Training Course (EMTC).
